HOTEL CHORIN SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BOOKING. If people try to book our main Hotel Haus Chorin through the "online buchung" system, it comes up with "all booked" for the period September 12-17. Of course, because all rooms are booked for us! Therefore, the only way to make a reservation is by going through "Kontakt" on the hotel web page. This will open the request form, in which you simply put your name, address etc and the type of room you want (Einzelzimmer = single room; Doppelzimmer = Double room. You have a choice of the main building (Hotel) or 3 smaller, separate buildings (Pension). Dont´t forget to enter "IUFRO" in the area for comments / requests (weitere Mitteilungen/Anfragen), otherwise they don´t know that you are one of us! You may also add more informations / requests, English is spoken - just not on the web page! This form is then simply sent as an email by pressing the "Nachricht senden" button.
DESCRIPTION OF HOTEL CHORIN. The location is quiet, and the beautiful Chorin lake is only 2 minutes away, and the famous Chorin monastery is 5 minutes away (walking time).
We have 60 rooms reserved for IUFRO participants. The room rates are 40 – 52 Euro/night (incl. breakfast). Most rooms can be used as double rooms, if you bring your partner (slightly higher rates) – please inform the hotel when booking if you bring a room mate. You can register on the hotel´s web page, keyword: “IUFRO 2010” and will receive a confirmation by e-mail. All rooms will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The hotel's website is Hotel Chorin, but for the moment it is only available in German. We'll update the link as soon as English is available. In the meantime you may find Babelfish useful - unless you speak German, of course. In case of problems, please contact Andreas Linde (iufro2010@fh-eberswalde.de).
As HOTEL CHORIN is our central meeting´s hotel, the welcome evening (Sept. 12th) as well as the banquet (Sept. 16th) and regular dinner buffets will be held in this hotel. The hotel will provide a large seminar room throughout the meeting for those participants who like to socialize after the sessions.
For those of you arriving by train from Berlin: The hotel offers a shuttle service to/from the Chorin train station. There is an hourly direct service from/to Berlin, 38 minutes travel time from Chorin train station.
2) The second recommended hotel is Waldseehotel Frenz (homepage in German only), within walking distance (5 min) from the main HOTEL CHORIN. In comparison, Waldseehotel Frenz offers lake views from some rooms. We have reserved 20 rooms for participants; room rates are from 46 to 66 Euro / night (incl. breakfast).
Reservations are possible online (e-mail: service@waldseehotel-frenz.de) (keyword: “IUFRO 2010”). If there is a problem making a reservation (the staff speaks "some" English...), please contact Andreas Linde (iufro2010@fh-eberswalde.de) for support! Participants staying in this hotel may also use the meeting room in the nearby Haus Chorin.
The bus shuttle to/from the lecture hall in Eberswalde will leave from the joint parking lot of both hotels, Hotel Chorin and Waldseehotel Frenz in the morning and return in the evenings. Driving time is approx. 15 min.
3) The third recommended hotel, Seehotel Muehlenhaus, is about 5-10 min away by car (a shuttle bus will be available until 10 p.m.) and also next to a lake. The hotel is a bit more upscale. We have a reservation for 20 rooms for IUFRO participants (keyword: “IUFRO 2010”), room rate for a single room is 45 Euros.
Please notice: This hotel is NOT in walking distance to the first two hotels, but is on the way to Eberswalde and our lecture hall, therefore the bus shuttle to/from the lectures will stop here, too.
Feel free to stay longer (before or after the meeting) in this beautiful area!
Alternative places to stay (we can assist you):
a) If you prefer to stay in Eberswalde, we can arrange reservation for the “Waldsolarheim” (see http://www.waldsolarheim.de/engl/index.html), which is in walking distance (10-15 min.) to the lecture hall and located next to the Forest Botanical Garden. Room rates are 39 Euro (single room), 62 Euro (double room), incl. breakfast. We have no reservation for IUFRO participants, but you may contact the Waldsolarheim individually (email via home page) for inquiries / reservations.
b) Another option is the Hotel Palmenhof on Eberswalde´s market square (see: http://www.hotel-palmenhof.de/index.html). This hotel is only 1 min. walking distance from the lecture hall and in downtown, therefore rates are a bit higher (see web page). We have no reservation for IUFRO participants in Hotel Palmenhof, so please make your own arrangements.
c) If you need to save money, please check “Haus am Stadtsee”(see: http://www.haus-am-stadtsee.com/cms/?page_id=146, web page in German only!). They offer simple rooms (most with shared bathroom) for competitive prices. Again, a beautiful lake is right behind the building, but otherwise this hotel is quite isolated (there is a restaurant, but no shops etc.). The shuttle bus to/from the lecture halls will stop here to pick up participants. Booking should be made through Andreas Linde (iufro2010@fh-eberswalde.de).
Please notice: There will be very limited shuttle service to/from these alternative hotels, so participants will have to make own arrangements (e.g. taxi transportation) to join the welcome evening and banquet in the Hotel Chorin.
